Introducing Lingo’s Newest Flock Member…Emily!
At the start of the year we were delighted to welcome a new member to Lingo’s flock! Emily is working as our brand new Community Researcher, working closely with Robbie and Rosi to develop Lingo Flamingo’s research. Keep reading to learn more about Emily and the fantastic research project she has started!
Hello, my name is Emily, and I am a new addition to the Lingo Flamingo flock in the role of Community Researcher.
I grew up in South Wales but fell in love with Glasgow when I first moved here seven years ago to study Geography and French at university followed by a research master’s specialising in queer storytelling from the Caribbean.
Since graduating I have been working with various charities as a Researcher and Impact Reporter, a role I love as I get to meet amazing people doing great work in their communities. As a language enthusiast and a researcher, I am excited to be working with Lingo Flamingo and am looking forward to gathering in-depth data about the work in our new research project.
For this project, the Lingo Flamingo team and I are working closely with The Open University to conduct 6 months of data collection, analysis, and presentation about our work with senior learners.
The project aims to increase our understanding of learning a language in older age, the effects of our language teaching on the carers and family members of senior learners, and how we can build on our work to expand its reach. I will be getting in touch with many of these stakeholders to conduct interviews and surveys and collect as many stories as I can about Lingo’s work so that we can bring the positive effects of language learning to more and more people.
I’m looking forward to speaking to many of you and hearing all about your language journeys and where they have taken you!
