Brighten Up Your Garden with Wildflower Bombs this Earth Day!
Today, Tuesday 22nd April, marks Earth Day! It’s day to celebrate the Earth and raise awareness of environmental threats across the globe. Therefore, Lingo’s Green Ambassadors have put together a fun blog post explaining how you can create your own wildflower meadow in your own garden!
Homemade seed bombs can be a great way to replicate a meadow environment that our pollinators live in, in a small, unused part of the garden. They are easy to make at home and can be thrown straight onto the soil, leaving nature to take care of the rest!
They are not limited to wildflowers. Various seed packet mixes can be purchased from garden centres such as a Butterfly & Bee mic, Patio mix or Shade mix.
What You Will Need:
2 packets of Wildflower Seeds
140 grams (1 cup) Peat-free Compost
280 grams (2 cups) Plain Flour
240 ml Water
Mixing Bowl
How To Make Your Wildflower Bombs:
In a bowl, mix together the two packets of seeds with the compost and flour
Slowly mix in the water with your hands until everything sticks together
TIP: If it’s too wet, add more flour or compost. If it’s too dry, add more water. It should be a similar consistency to play dough!
Once you have a good consistency, turn the dough out onto a floured board
Pull small pieces of the dough and roll into balls. You should aim to roll golf-ball sizes, but they can be slightly larger or smaller
Leave the balls to dry in a sunny place. This should take around 2 days
Plant your seed bombs by throwing them onto the soil in bare parts of the garden…and wait to see what pops up!
So what are you waiting for? Now the weather is getting warmer and sunnier, it’s the perfect chance to give this a go and see what blooms by summer. We’d love to see your green fingers in action so be sure to tag us in all your wildflower garden photos!
