Learning Languages with Senior Learners: A Pioneering Social Care Staff Professional Learning Course.

We are proud to announce the launch of a new professional learning course for carers and care professionals aimed to make language learning accessible to senior learners in any care setting to enhance their well-being while tackling social isolation.

Fruit of our long-standing collaboration with The Open University in Scotland, the course Learning Languages with Senior Learners covers a variety of study materials revolving around the theory and practice of learning languages for the well-being of senior learners.

More details below:

  • Duration: 15 weeks

  • Distance learning, including study materials, a dedicated tutor, a student forum and online tutorials (in the evening)

  • No prior language knowledge is required

  • Next start: 31st January 2025

  • Price: Free of charge

In order to secure your free place, you will need to agree to participate in our research by providing us with your observations of and reflections on undertaking the languages activities with your senior learners.

This online course is for anyone working with older people, either in paid or unpaid care settings, interested in languages and cultures and/or basic knowledge of another language.

You can start a joint language learning journey with your senior learner/s to develop your own skill set and help promote their brain health, boost their self-esteem, and enhance the well-being of everyone involved.
